In 3,983 original healthy men, changes in the electrocardiogram preceded coronary heart disease in 15 of 32 cases in whom later diagnosis was established. Five subjects had distinctive changes of myocardial infarction without any reported symptoms. Primary T wave changes occurred in 111 subjects so that at this time of follow-up the majority have not developed clinical coronary disease, but the appearance of T wave changes was the most predictive of electrocardiographic abnormalities.
